Community Involvement

A community is like a family; it must be supported and nurtured to experience healthy, sustainable growth. We believe that our community requires a solid foundation upon which to build a future, so we are committed to making a difference by caring for its members and fostering a sense of continued civic responsibility.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation

When she was one year old ALSF founder, Alexandra Scott, was diagnosed with a type of childhood cancer called neuroblastoma. Following her fourth birthday, Alex told her parents that she wanted to open a lemonade stand.  Her goal was to raise money to give to doctors so that they could find a cure for childhood cancer.

Alex sadly passed away when she was eight years old, but her legacy lives on through the efforts of her parents and the support of thousands of communities around the country.  Since 2000, ALSF has raised over $127 million to help fund childhood cancer research. Our office is proud to be a supporter of ALSF's cause by working with members of our community to spread awareness of childhood cancer and help raise money for cancer research.

Our office hosts Northwestern Mutual Lemonade Stands in our local community to raise money for the Northwestern Mutual Childhood Cancer Research Fund and Family Travel Fund in partnership with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.  This on-going yearly committment has helped fund over $15 Millon worth of research hours.

Our partnership with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and local organizations has a mission to improve the lives of children and families in need.

Great Giveback Day - Dakota Wesleyan

We have been fortunate enough to work with  Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD for a number of years during their annual Great Giveback Day.  On this day members of the university rally together to help the community in various way.  Our advisors and staff have done everything from passing out water to volunteers, to staining picnic tables, to planting trees and spreading mulch for members of the community.

Adopt-A-Family - St. Francis House

For numerous years, we have been a roud supporter of Adopt-A-Family throught the Sioux Falls St. Francis House.  The program allows us to help provide a Christmas celebration for families who may be struggling to make ends meet.  From donating toys to hats and mittens, we hope to make an impact in the lives of families who need it the most.

Combat Cancer Obstacle Course

In July 2018, our agency held a Combact Cancer Osbstacle Course that raised over $3,200 despite the cold and rainy weather.  Proceeds from this event went to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation to help fund pediatric cancer research.  The course was designed by members of our Rapid City office, along side local contractors and volunteers in the area.  The event caught attention from local news stations and attracted a rather large crowd of participants and supporters.  Along with the obstacle course, there was a dunk tank, face painting, and of course a lemonade stand.
